Alix & the Rockers @ Groovy Grove Sundays

"In these times of limited venues in the magic city - any joint that has original music has to be embraced. In my 18 years of playing, producing, promoting and writing about music in the magic city - I've spent some time in some funky venues, but never a steakhouse.

But hey, if I can do a Blowfly gig at a 3 star italian restaurant in Santa Rosa, California - there's no reason why you shouldn't go see Alix and the Rockers, Sunday at Chicago Steakhouse. Alix is a 12 year old slide guitar player who hopes to follow in the footsteps of Derek Trucks - sans the famous dad (Butch Trucks of the Allman Brothers). It appears that this is her first headlining gig - so if you're into that kinda thing - go on down to the grove and party like its 1969.
You know, when Alix's grandparents met."

Prunk TV: GWIP (Your Name Here) We Rock

By Jason Handelsman in PrunkTV
excerpts from his blog

"I want to start a band with you all. And I am going to: There is a huge rehearsal space/ recording studio near Tropical Park, filled with amplifiers, keyboards, a PA system, two Pearl drum sets, and an analog recording booth. (see video above). Imo, it is the best and most affordable rehearsal studio in Miami (4 hours for $35). But I got you, dawg. You already know. This one is on me. They call 305 the Magic City for a reason."

The owner of the studio: producer/ manager/ open mic host, Jeff Sadowsky has set a challenge upon me: "If you can put a group together and write some good songs, I will get you some paid gigs around town." He continued, "Think of this studio as your canvas. You can practice and record here...who knows...maybe you'll win a Grammy." I have gratefully accepted his challenge, and I am hereby inviting you to join me. GWIP needs all of the above. I can't do it by myself. Jeff's studio is off the chain, and it has the potential to become Miami's own Electric Ladyland, Speaking of EARTH...

4 Things You Never Knew Your Cell Phone Could Do

4 Things You Never Knew Your Cell Phone Could Do

For all the folks with cell phones. (This should be printed and kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have with you.)

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.

Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to Establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot From your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves s omeone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editor's Note
:
It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!'
THIRD
Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys
*3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.
And Finally.

FOURTH

Free Directory Service for Cells
Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial:
(800)FREE411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

Shake-a Leg Miami needs volunteers

Shake-A-Leg has big plans

Shake-A-Leg Miami Aquatic Center and Marine Academy helps children and adults with physical, developmental and economic challenges; liberating them from the realm of imagination into the realm of experience. We have successfully created an inspirational haven, where people of all backgrounds and abilities find common ground. Shake-A-Leg Miami is South Florida’s "Gateway to Biscayne Bay." Our continued partnership with the City of Miami, plus over 100 community organizations, both public and private, is the ultimate confirmation of the power of unity and collaboration

Shake-A-Leg has received some grants recently and they are renovating the place.

They are looking for volunteers now to help with the boat renovations. Their goal is to redo every boat in their fleet.

Professional Boat Builder magazine is involved as well, helping to make the place better for disadvantaged and handicapped people.

Helping Leilani -Tonight

Leilani (left) will be undergoing open heart surgery this week and there is a silent auction being held at Monty's (2550 S. Bayshore Drive)
August 20, to help raise funds. A yard sale was held earlier in the month.

Leilani was rescued from the pound by Paws4You. While she was undergoing an examination by their veterinarian, a murmur was detected and heart surgery was recommended. She is young and a full recovery is expected.

The gathering at Monty's is from 6 to 9 pm. Drinks are half price and the raw bar is open until 8 pm. During this period, items will be up for auction and all proceeds will go directly to Leilani's cardiologist bill.
